The government introduced a ban on cold calling about pensions in January, but every month fraudsters think of new ways to trick people out of their money. Almost three quarters of us have been targeted by scammers in the last year. Here are some of the most common scams criminals are trying:
Pension cold calling
If you receive a phone call out of the blue about your current or future pension,
If you’re receiving employment-related benefit payments such as Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit you could suffer a “benefits sanction”. This can happen if you miss Job Centre meetings, fail to achieve agreed objectives or are suspected of attempting benefit fraud. You could then lose ALL your benefit payments for between 4 weeks and 3 years.
Congratulations and huge thanks to everyone who participated in making last Saturday’s quiz such a massive success. We really hope you enjoyed the evening and thought you would like to know that we raised £3,100, completely smashing our target and exceeding last year’s takings by a whopping £700.
Your generosity really makes a difference and helps ensure we can continue to provide advice and support for another year,
Camberley Citizens Advice was one of the 200 Citizens Advice Bureaux that opened 80 years ago in 1939 as a response to the start of the Second World Ward. It operated two afternoons a week and was staffed by volunteers who gave advice about wartime arrangements such as rationing or conscription and also helped people contact relatives in Europe via the Red Cross.
Have you had a bad experience with your local health or social care services? We are here to help!
As well as providing you with support and advice about your individual issue, by telling us your experiences you may help to improve these services locally.
As part of the “watchdog” organisation Healthwatch Surrey we use the evidence we gather from people like you to help to influence positive change.
Are you struggling to feed yourself or your family, need emergency clothing, transport or essential household items? You may be eligible for support from the Surrey County Council’s Surrey Crisis Fund. This scheme provides discretionary payments to those who have nowhere else to turn in an emergency or after a disaster.
This year our annual golf day was held at the prestigious Swinley Forest Golf Club on 23 April . Twenty teams enjoyed the magnificent course and the sunshine, followed by a fabulous lunch and fund-raising auction.
We were fortunate enough to raise £11,131 from the event, which will be used to extend our services to Surrey Heath residents so many thanks go to all those who participated as well as the organisations who donated prizes and auction lots.
You will now find us in the old Surrey Heath Museum space on the first floor and across from the Registrar’s office in Surrey Heath House.
